      The positions you need to take and the knot you need to tie yourself into in order to reflexively defend the president at this point have become too much for many of my GOP friends, which is a credit to them and a bad sign for Trump.

      And, no, my GOP friends are not a random sample of GOP voters. They skew wealthy, business-y, and educated. But even. If they are only representative of that slice, it’s a data point. Especially given the recent nature of it.

      Oh heck yes. ~30% voted Trump, and surely more than that identify conservative / conservative-ish. Might not seem like much, but the resulting culture is _very_ different from that of 22% towns.

          I remember from my childhood (90s) that it was a somewhat GOP-leaning town. Grew up around the corner from a Republican mayor, Dick Lyons; can only imagine what a guy like him makes of the party today
