Been in SF for 2 hours and it’s heartbreaking. Streets lined with people keeled over, worse than ever. Drugs everywhere. I step into one store where a shoplifter gets caught and beats up a cashier until the police come.
Heading back to the airport.

No government that fails to maintain civic order can remain legitimate for long in the eyes of its citizens.

It's funny; this tweet is being liked and retweeted by mostly conservatives, but this isn't a conservative or liberal issue. You can not have a functioning society if citizens don't have a presumption of personal safety and order. Eventually, you get vigilantes and militias.

Your beef then, if you have one, is that liberals don't understand this?

Again, not sure it's a liberal or conservative thing, precisely. Bloomberg, whom most would regard as pretty liberal, understood the importance of maintaining order in NY after Giuliani.

It shouldn’t be, but I think it’s become one b/c of ideologues who have gained sway on the left. Even Bloomberg reversed his position and apologized for stop and frisk. It’s an unfortunate situation when law and order advocacy becomes anathema in many circles on one side.
