My condolences to her and my anger at the lack of compassion in the health care system. My husband is on palliative care in BC Canada. All drugs are free. Please take action to stop this from reoccurring. Bring in universal comprehensive health care.

A Country that spends billions on wars and millions on "presidential golf trips" but won't cover a dying child's right to be comfortable enrages me!

I can only say, with pain in my heart, that single payer in all free world countries except USA would have covered this. No child should ever be a pawn of politics.

OptumRx is a financial service or "middle man" between you and your insurance carrier. OptumRx's "job" is to save insurance companies as much $ as they can. They save money by insisting on cheap, low-quality generics by DENYING the brands. Or they flat-out deny some scrips. /1
-
"DENY" is OptumRx's default option for brand drugs and for expensive drugs. However, you can find a way to get OptumRX to APPROVE a previously denied med. Getting an APPROVAL from OptumRX requires some cooperation with your doctor.
-
Your doctor needs a form called a WAIVER form. Most doctors' staff have the OptumRX Waiver Form on hand. If your doctor does not have an OptumRX Waiver form, find the page: https://professionals.optumrx.com/prior-authorization/rx-pharmacy.html … Look for the Rx you need. Print/email the WAIVER (pre-authorization form) to MD.
-
The MD will fill out the Prior Authorization form to OptumRX. The MD will write an explanation on the form telling why OptumRX should approve 1) the brand (the generic does not work for the patient; or 2) the medication the patient needs (if it isn't on the formulary).
-
Finally, you will receive a letter of Approval from OptumRX that the med is covered by your insurance. I'm sick about your son. A mom shouldn't have to jump through loops in order to get their children's medication. But the waiver form is the best (and official) way. Godspeed.

Here is what I replied to her” Try reaching out to the pharmaceutical company that makes the drug. There are some that assist with providing medications-especially in such a special for this youngster. It may be under patient support programs-but look for any number and reach out
-
In this country, a grieving mom has to beg for meds to keep her child comfortable, and others have so much money they have to hide it in a bank in the islands.!???How is this ok?
-
This country hasn’t been ok in that respect for years
