I sent a letter to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz today in support of the brave workers fighting for better wages and working conditions. My request to him is simple: Obey the law. Stop firing organizing workers. Sit down with your workers and bargain a fair contract in good faith.

I will be re-introducing my bill to extend Social Security's solvency for the next 75 years & expand benefits by $2,400 a year. How? By scrapping the cap. Today, a billionaire pays the same amount into Social Security as someone making $160,000 a year. Let's end that absurdity.

Great to see Joe Manchin suddenly touting the Social Security proposal that congressional progressives have been championing since at least a decade ago👇

Manchin on CNN says there should be no cuts to those now getting Social Security & Medicare, and rejects idea of raising the SS retirement age. He instead suggests raising the taxable wage cap for employees paying into the program.

Remember when NYC Mayor said he wasn't jailing people for being poor & unhoused? He's now ramping up jailing people for being poor & unhoused by giving $50-$250 fines they can't pay, resulting in bench warrants and jail for nonpayment.

This week in 1961, US, British and Belgian forces couped and assassinated Patrice Lumumba, the first democratically elected leader of the Republic of Congo, because he sought to restore national control over the country's mineral wealth. Remember Lumumba.

NEWS: My god. $820 million. NYC taxpayers will pay *$820 million* in just overtime for NYPD this year. Could instead house all 14,000 homeless families in NYC. Then years of rent for 7,000 families out of work & at risk of eviction. With millions left over.

Changes are emerging across the climate system. Everywhere we look, the climate is changing rapidly. Rate of recent changes is unprecedented in at least 2000 years for many climate metrics. These changes are not natural; they are primarily caused by the burning of fossil fuels.

One of the things I wasn’t prepared for when I started learning about gender violence was how many women and girls predict their own murders and plea for help, only to be ignored or dismissed until it’s too late.

NYPD is going $366M over its allotted OT budget this year––greater than the military budget of Albania. This has generated zero outrage in NY media which routinely gins up anger over "fare evasion" "costing taxpayers". so I wrote about the double standard
