The Statehood issue is a diversion from the dire need for change in the way the government of Puerto Rico functions. There is no transparency or accountability. Filing deadlines are not met, GAAP accounting is not used (including lack of timely regular audits), nepotism abounds.

Puerto Rico is a huge problem as entry for illegal drugs/immigration. Crime is uncontrolled and tremendous debt. US citizens cannot afford to give them statehood.
