FWIW, turf grass has short roots and is not good for mitigating erosion.

Grass conceals visibility of the depth & width of the gaping hole + ravine, but it doesn't stop the erosion. Even turf mats placed on the beach will not stop the river from cutting a new bank and undercutting the beach + base of the fence.
