Unfortunately, most Americans understand our politicians lie. We've been conditioned not to believe anything they say while campaigning, esp. Who could've imagined Congress would be complicit in something this expensive, inefficient & egregious, after a decade of lessons learned?

I know I frequently vote for people who go against my deep-held conservation beliefs because...no, wait, I don’t, that would be absurd.

Anyway, if you think that WaPo article makes people sympathetic to the butterfly cause, I fear you do not understand how people work.

It looks like ::checks notes:: there were about 63 million people who did, so I can’t imagine why you’d write him off as a liar on the only issue that affects you.

So you know politicians lie, but...somehow thought that this one lied only about the things you didn't want and not about the things you did? Because you voted for him based on things he said he'd do that you wanted? I sincerely hope this is actually a terrible lie because...whew

This isnt true. Most politicians don’t flat out lie about their goals. Sure one might say ‘I’m going to fight for Medicare for all’ and then compromise on something like the ACA. The politician didn’t lie. Maybe people expect less from GOP candidates but that should be alarming.

Who's been conditioned? I haven't. I assume politicians tell the truth about what they want to do. They may not always get to do that thing, but if someone tells you something? You should believe them.
