In theory you could buy this card, send it to Gigabyte and they'll repair it under warranty. You'll probably have a functioning card in hand in three months or so. If that's worth paying more than full price for a broken graphics card, then we're fucked.

None of those are workstation grade components. If Intel's GPUs are compatible with most video standards they'll be claimed for mining as well. And the Navi APUs. And as for Apple's ARM chips ... seriously?https://twitter.com/YourMindAches/status/1387201755667214337 …

"Yeah, I can't find a good video card to help process tile based rendering on my 64 core, 256GB Threadripper editing rig. Guess I'll buy a Macbook Air." No.

Gonna say it for the cheap seats: GRAPHICS CARDS DO MORE THAN GAME. Radeon and GeForce cards are affordable alternatives to Quadro and Radeon Pro cards that perform many of the same functions. Affordable home workstations are just as common as gaming rigs.

I don't even get why this is a point of contention. The very fact these cards can do all these complex calculations is the very reason why miners are sniping them and then wasting them on crypto. They're necessary for other purposes and there's no viable substitute.

Except they use the same Zen cores that are needed for Ryzen CPUs. And those are all being snapped up, too. So there's competition for the components and shortages. So now what?https://twitter.com/XoaGray/status/1387339139289387009 …

Like this isn't just a PC gaming issue and I don't get why people don't understand that. SeXBox? AMD Zen. PS5? AMD Zen. Most in-demand PC CPUs on the planet? AMD Zen. And did I mention that AMD, Nvidia and Intel are all competing for fabrication time at the same plant?

Even with Intel owning their own fabrication, it's still insufficient to keep up with the demand. There's hoards of assholes buying up all the silicon and no space on the TSMC assembly lines to make enough. The pandemic played a role, but crypto is also part of it.

And this shit right here? This is fucking irritating and damn near false advertising. They don't have any cards. They're taking pre-orders for cards and they don't know when the shipment will arrive. But they still show up on Google's search as if they have merch in hand.pic.twitter.com/VII42PKnOQ

If you use a place like ShopBLT, you might get a card in six months for the advertised price. Maybe. Or you might get an email telling you that the price has gone up and you're welcome to pay more to complete the order. Scams, scams everywhere.
