Having received emails from both & today re: current disagreement about genetic counselor scope of practice, I’m genuinely curious: Do you consider the process of genetic test ordering and reviewing/ communicating results to be making a diagnosis?

Something extraordinary is unfolding for American female distance runners, and it’s making all of us better. I spent last year aiming for an impossible goal. I failed but it was unexpectedly one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever tried.

Interesting survey from & ! >50% of folks surveyed are curious & hopeful re: genetics research... <15% are worried, confused, or pessimistic. Respondents definitely had some misconceptions abt genetics concepts tho

Writing a grant related to drug use, have this nearby as a check on stigmatizing language. Words carry our assumptions and project stigma and shame. They matter.

ALSO, almost every new grad I know (incl myself) used salary & benefits data from the to evaluate (and hopefully negotiate) job offers. This is especially valuable info for negotiating first salary post grad school, but also for approaching raises, new roles, etc.

Done ✅ - TAKE THE PSS! The recent drama re: ACMG’s lack of support for (& ’s thoughtful thread on the topic) should remind us all how important these DATA are to demonstrating our value & our roles.

Great opening quote from this paper “A Genetic Counselor is like air conditioning, when you don’t have it, you don’t know what you’re missing, when you have it you can’t live without it”

“Deloitte, Rady Children's Institute for Genomic Medicine Announce Project to Accelerate Medical Sample Delivery Via Unmanned Aircraft Systems” I guess not all drones are annoying... esp if they’re flying urgent genetic testing samples to labs 🚀

A week ago I saw this awesome flowchart shared on "how to say no". I updated it for style purposes, but ended up misattributing it. Thanks for finding the original creator: . Feel free to share and download THIS version with correct attribution.

“I’ve talked to, you know, a lot of women - and men - who are scared to get genetic testing. And it is scary. That knowledge is definitely a burden, and it’s hard, but I think personally I would way rather know and use that knowledge to empower me and my decisions.”

As a GC who will be attending ACMG (for my own professional development & to represent my research group), I like the constructive convo about what we can do at the conference to raise awareness for HR3235 & to highlight benefit of GCs working at top of scope (incl test ordering)
