My headset broke in the same spot too. It was strange 'cause I didn't think I put too much pressure on them putting them on and taking them off.

Use DJ headphones. We abuse them to no end and still pump. I personally use Beats by Dre. They are a bit heavy but durable. There are some other cheaper durable headphones made by Sony, Moda, and If you can find them Technics.
