What‘s this story all about in short? The page came up with some serious data gathering pop up attempt so I didn’t continue.
The site is Twitlonger, very commonly used by hundreds of thousands of users. Pretty safe. There's too much to paraphrase, but there are many discussions around the web right now.

If you check their privacy policy it covers their intended uses with the cookie data. To confirm after checking the site it generates Google/Twitter analytics cookies. I'm not a fan of either, but they are easily blockable with extensions. Even easier would be to use Tor.
