I have had three cups of coffee and an energy drink and all I want to do is sleep. The heck is wrong with me?

I was JUST typing this exact thing out. Some things you just know.

Why does this happen? My only guess would be something about caffeine being a stimulant, making you focused rather than scattered, and that leading to you being able to feel tired without a thousand different thoughts or things.

As far as I understand, that's almost exactly it. The caffeine stimulates our lack of endorphins in our brain, placing us on a 'neutral' level. When you take something that is constantly straining for endorphins & give it what it needs, it becomes exhausted. Thus, being tired.

Exactly this - I discovered early on when being treated for ADHD that taking Adderall allowed me some of the best sleep I'd had in ages. I brought it up to my Psychiatrist, they said it was likely because my brain was stimulated enough to stay at neutral which allowed me to rest.

I'm currently in the diagnosis process, fit like 95% of ADHD signs since childhood, and struggle a lot. I took a few (fun, quick, colourful) tests, Dr said "You performed too well in these tests to fit ADHD criteria." I'm worried I'll never get medicated, only caffeine forever :/

honestly, get a 2nd opinion from a doc that trains in ADHD. I didn't know I had ADHD until I was getting treated for HEAVY depression. I got a new psychiatrist and within an hour she's like 'no, you're not depressed, you have ADHD.' we did the tests, and by god she was right.

Alas the Canadian struggle of asking your family doctor, then waiting a year for your first appointment with someone. My last appointment with this one is tomorrow so I'm really hopeful, but I won't give up, thank you!

As a Canadian, I understand. I had to pay out of pocket for the psychiatrist, and it sucked. Thankfully she knew her stuff. May you have all the luck on your side! (And if you have any questions, hit me up!)
