“Just leave gender out of it ” I wish I could have just told that to all the men who excluded, harassed, and threatened me since I started playing FPS games at 13 years old

When I was 11, playing an MMO with my real name, almost every day I'd get people saying stuff like "Did you know your name backwards is I-moan? Lets find out how loud I can make you moan baby..." I'd say I'm 11. "Ooh, fresh, even better" I just wanted to play the damn game.

All these comments saying "this is just how the internet is" are basically just saying to not fight it, to just let it happen, that they wont help to make the internet a better place. Seems like those same people are fine with that status quo

Yeah lol, and it's such a ridiculous argument too. "Get off the internet if you can't handle it" like there's some contractual agreement that harassment is okay and you're choosing to expose yourself to it. Nah, people need to be better.

I've got a few female gamer friends and the abuse they've received while we've been squadding up on something is horrendous.
