Maybe they're trying to clear their following lists to avoid spending hours browsing on social media, but also want to check on the people they care about. Unfollowing doesn't have to mean they don't want to be friends or don't want to keep up with you

I dunno, there seem to be a lot of people that wanna be minimal about who they're following to help stick to their goals, be productive.. but they're worried about offending their friends and peers. So much value is put on being mutuals sometimes. I get both, modern life is wonky
