I guess the mentality is "I guess she feels like she "needs" make up to look pretty" so shining white knights say the comment to let her know she is pretty already. But most women wear make up, not to look pretty per se, but to accentuate their beauty even further. I get it now.
There is a HUGE difference between these two phrases: "You are naturally beautiful!" "Go wash that stuff off your face."
