I've seen a lot of comments whenever the design of women in games gets brought up, like Fates, Bayonetta, or Xenoblade.

It's usually to the effect of "Many of these artists/designers are women" and the response to that is usually "They're just doing that because it's the expectations of men, not by their own choice."

And there's several layers of bullshit in that argument. One, it's heteronormative, assuming all women are straight by default and gay/bi women are abnormalities not something you should ever consider actually exist.

And it brings up how women in games are treated as 'invaders' by women and 'trying to win favor with men' by other women.

And more over it treats sex, sexiness, lewdness, etc. as being an inherently negative quality humans have that treats people who work in erotica as 'lesser' artists.

So right away to me it says these are the wrong type of women, their existence is abnormal, and their behavior is scandalous and more importantly they shouldn't be brought up compared to 'normal cases'.

People are free to have their hangups about sex, it's there prerogative. But we do what we do, and many artists do what they do because they unashamedly embrace a natural human thing called libido, that culturally we've been told is evil and wrong.

Its important to recognize how women can and do contribute to misogyny but it really is aggravating how conversation around these characters starts with the assumption that they were designed by an incel otaku dude so even if thats not the case they never really let go of it

Yea I agree, and especially how men and women will diminish outliers. Because men see them as invading male spaces, and women see them as invading male spaces for approval. Like you mentioned, it contributes to hiding women who influenced their medium without any credit.

The same thing happens all the time with anime too, especially surrounding yuri. Different groups only validate certain women in the industry. If Sayamanoto hadnt made YOI thered be ppl angry at her for leaving fujiko's titties out all the time

I just see it how there always were women pornographers as long as men, it's not a male trait to have a libido, but mysogyny has prevented them from creating meaningful careers.

And then they act like the women are 'forced' to do it at the beck and call of men. When for a series like, say, neptunia, it was created by a woman and women largely remain in the decision making positions in that series

Free! had women running it's production? I also know Clockup had their recent BL game run entirely by women. That wouldn't be possible if women weren't in that industry already in large numbers, but hidden from view.

Maidragon was a notable one this year bc it caught flak for being a show made by horny men when in actuality it had a notable amount of women working on it, some episodes had women doing the majority of key animation and art direction which some would say oh thats not a decision

"If it's horny, it's by men, because women are never horny" is what that always reads to me as. Women are chaste else they are sluts. It's criticizing internal mysogyny with internal mysogyny.

And i mean, this is of course only describing part of the people involved bevause lots of shitty guys use women involved in gross stuff to not your shield the argument. I dont even bother engaging with them so i dont focus on them in these discussions. Fuck em tho

Right, it's best to have the argument separately as it's own thing, and not use it as a way to silence someone else. That will only hurt things.
