You can be profoundly critical and deeply compassionate. I remind myself in my work that these two are not mutually exclusive. A sharp mind and warm heart can serve one another in a deeper understanding of the impact of research. Empathy is a tool for multi-dimensional analysis.

Pelosi has consistently said she prays fo Trump, but this begs the question: does Trump pray for Pelosi? And theologically speaking: shouldn't he?

  4. After speakers call for unity he “Trump took the podium. He used his time as a campaign speech and to slam his opponents, framing the room of global faith leaders as on his side, and on the side of God.”

As Trump is introduced, a note: Technically, the National Prayer Breakfast isn't supposed to cater exclusively to conservative Christians, but rather to a broad spectrum of religions and political perspectives. However: that is…not always how the presidential speeches go.

Trump: “We are standing up for persecuted Christians and religious minorities all around the world, like nobody has ever done.” Fact check: Many persecuted Christians in the Middle East—which Trump said he'd assist—say they're NOT better off post-Trump

The should be a prayer of penance for the deaths of these 138 people, who were forcibly deported back to El Salvador and were killed. They asked us for life, and we said no. "I was a stranger and you did not welcome me" (Mt 25).

It's quite something to hear a president, especially one who is Christian, completely reject the whole idea of "love your enemies," one of Jesus' most important and famous teachings.

Oh WOW. At National Prayer Breakfast, Trump appears to make a direct attack on Mitt Romney's faith-rooted vote to convict him, saying, "I don’t like people who use faith for justification for doing that they know is wrong." For context:

Trump's "I don't like people who use their faith as justification for doing what is wrong" seems like an attack on Sen. Romney.

Trump's speech is very striking (and the applause he is getting). The National Prayer Breakfast bills itself as a nonpartisan, non-political event. Trump making multiple references to that the room is behind him
