I’m a little confused; wasn’t it a Conservative government that effectively demanded the end of free BBC licences for the over 75s as a cost cutting measure?
This licence fee announcement will be the last. The days of the elderly being threatened with prison sentences and bailiffs knocking on doors, are over. No. The government agreed a license fee deal with the BBC which includes increases in price and scope for the license. The BBC then took the money and then ditched the free TV licenses.

A Tory government withdrew the funding to make licence fees free to the over 75s and a Tory government shifted the responsibility of collecting the licence fee to the BBC purely as a way of undermining it. The culture war and the gaslighting won’t work anymore. We see you.

Hi Nadine. The BBC provides disability programming, Welsh/Gaelic language programming, provides educational resources to schools and colleges and maintains the Freeview transmitter network. How do they continue to do these things that aren’t profitable under your model?
