    Yesterday & I released the Murad Code a global code of conduct, which puts survivors’ rights at the heart of evidence gathering for victims of conflict-related sexual violence. The international community must do all it can to bring perpetrators to account.

    Russia’s attack on Ukraine is a senseless act of war. I know from experience who suffers the most from conflict, and it’s never the leaders who start it. My heart is with the mothers and daughters, fathers and sons whose homes, livelihoods, and communities are at stake.

    There are still dozens of mass graves that need to be exhumed throughout Sinjar. Families and loved ones deserve closure and deserve to say a proper goodbye to those that they have lost. This is critical for the community to heal from the loss and pain they have endured.

    A difficult part of these exhumations is that many families face their worst fears and learn that a loved one has died. While sad, it allows for closure for the family members and for proper, respectful burial ceremonies to be performed for the deceased person

    Since the genocide in 2014, 132 residents from Hardan village are still missing. And for a long time, many families have been left wondering if their missing loved ones are alive or not.

    Today, there was an exhumation of seven mass graves in Hardan. This village in Sinjar, Iraq was one of the areas targeted by ISIS during the 2014 genocide on the Yazidi community.
