While I was running for Congress last year a hospital bill for $2k showed up from 2017. They claimed that Blue Cross never acknowledged the bill and tried to tell me I showed up to the doc with no insurance. Yea right. 1/4

After some more calls the exasperated lady handling my claim at the hospital told me her supervisor dropped it. She told me it was under her supervisors discretion to make the bill go away. 3/4

Even when I had insurance the system tried to gaslight me & send me to collections. I was at the mercy of a supervisor even though none of it was my fault. We deserve more than this system. Health care is a human right and we shouldn’t be put into debt in order to seek it 4/4

And this is just... the norm. I've had variants of this happen to me with different hospitals and insurance companies, even supposedly good ones. I even know how insurance claims and medical billing operates, and they still try to gaslight and cheat/defraud me.

what you described (exec decision made by admin) was a standard practice before Obamacare. In the old days hospitals would “write down” deltas btwn their cost and what insurance covered. It was called a “disallow.” That went away with the ind mandate + pre-existing conditions.pic.twitter.com/63Uu7I0J6S
