Cannot get enough of the 2.5yr old logic being thrown about in our whare. -Dad? -Yes? -Horses don't have fingers they have hooves. -Yes that's right. -....... so ...... that's ..... why Humptys horses couldn't put Humpty together AGAIN!

Excellent long form piece on our mysterious, mythical and marvelous eels. As a country kid eels were an integral part of my intro to the great outdoors.

Released this morning Bean joined 8 others at first light: A shearwater hit by a ferry, a tern tangled in yacht rigging that took weeks to recover.... It shows how vulnerable our feathery mates are, and the incredible people working hard to patch them up again. Outstanding NZers.

I honestly thought the bedraggled Cooks Petrel (Bean) I found floundering, wet and with a large head injury last week was going to die. After a huge rehab effort by Karen and the team at I give you this beautiful clip of freedom. Credit: Jake Legge

Just had the call that Bean is going to be released tomorrow morning at first light. Just had a bubble bath and rinse and waterproofing is now 'popping' so after being topped up with anchovy slushies will be 'offered freedom' by a volunteer

Happy to report Bean is still doing well on rd to recovery, now had a full vet check over which shows just how much work goes into every bird rescue. Looking good Beano!

Some great name suggestions, but overwhelmingly it seems the name Bean has popped out. ....So 'Bean' he/she is. Pleased to report Bean had a full vet check today and still looking good but needs a few more days to sort waterproofing out, fingers crossed for no surprises from here

This is an excellent summary of the fledgling birds, and what is happening across auckland currently. Over 80 reported so far. Such a huge effort goes into each one to make sure it can continue on its way.

Omg look at that shiny beak! Look at that determined stare!! So my little mate Cooks petrel is not out of woods yet but I've been told it is now allowed an official nick name. Open to suggestions, was found just off Bean Rock Lighthouse, a fledgling- sex unknown - & go...

Here's some pics of injuries, looking considerably better now, including nasty one behind head. Have been learning plenty about this little bird including that it is one of the 5 species of seabird that breed only in the Hauraki Gulf and no where else in the world.

Just had an update and can confirm that little mate is a tītī/Cooks Petrel as some of you guessed. Looks a million bucks all dried out now, but real danger is infection from what they think is a nasty rat bite. Reportedly is a good weight and now on antibiotics and fluids.

Ok I've been updated and the good news is it's still alive. They think it's a Pycroft Petrel but haven't seen one before so waiting until it dries out a bit. I see someone else thinks it's a Cooks? They given it fluids and pain killers, happy that it's comfortable at least.

Anyway I intially wasn't going to share anything unless the outcome was a happy one but I think it's important to be real about these things to show the tough time our birds have. I'll let you know A: What it is, and B: If it survives, I'm not sure it will. Go well little mate.

They happily sent a volunteer to meet me at the wharf, where a nice lady picked the bird up. I noticed that the poor thing has an injury behind its head, my guess is boatstrike or possibly attacked by another bird? It looks pretty bad.

My initial thoughts were its a Shearwater?, although it seems a bit big. Anyway I tried calling NZ bird rescue but had no answer so looked up and found Waiheke native bird rescue and gave them a call.

Warning I do not know if this thread will have a happy ending. This morning out 'testing' some boat repairs I came across this little mate bird in a bad way. Just floating, wings spread, making no effort to get out of the way.

Make tracking your kid easier this Easter by tying the bell from your Lindt Bunny to their ankle. Better living everybody.

Amazing challenge by Luna Rossa, well done to them for being such exciting competitors, such a series to enjoy. But congrats, CONGRATS to Team NZ, & to everyone on water and the viaduct right now. What do you think , surely that qualifies as ABSOLUTE SCENES?
