Not to mention the Medieval Warm Period, why it arose, and why it ended when it did, why we went into the Little Ice Age, why we didn't continue to global glaciation, why it started to warm again in 1850 and not 1750 or 1950 … answer those and the models might be believable. w.https://twitter.com/ChrisMartzWX/status/1206664442496372736 …

Until climate models can tell me why the Arctic was ice-free 6,000 years ago, and until they can accurately reproduce the warming observed since the beginning of the satellite record, I refuse to believe any catastrophic doomsday scenarios put forth by climate modelers.

Abe-Ouchi et al 2013 is a fascinating study which IMO provides convincing explanation of ice age cycles https://academiccommons.columbia.edu/doi/10.7916/D8MC994B/download … additionally showing role of deep-time gradual CO2 starvation in creating conditions for continental glaciation.

Thanks, Steve. However, if your theory about CO2 keeping us out of the next glacial age is true, it's surprising to me that it wasn't (AFAICT) mentioned in their study. Surely they must have looked at that ... did I miss it? w.

See Figure 1g. Three lines for three different CO2 levels, with the top one being 260 ppm, way less than present yet still hitting the ice ages quite hard. (But the size of that CO2 effect seems to come from GCMs, so skeptics may wish to adjust it downwards.)

I'm rather puzzled by the paper, though. They talk about how isostatic rebound is a decisive factor, but offer very little explanation of how it could affect the climate.

They say something about it working by lowering the altitude of the ice, but really? How much lowering, in meters, and why would that have such a big effect?

Studies on Lake Michigan show about 100m of depression, which is about 1°C temp difference. w.
