if French-language schools in Canada (including Quebec) were forced to switch to English, Quebec would separate in a nanosecond. If this story is correct, Ukraine deserves to disintegrate and US should not be trying to prop it up.https://twitter.com/Russ_Warrior/status/1180477692669562880 …

as a non-millennial Canadian, I've lived through two separation referenda. Seems to me that Crimea and/or Donbass have right to separate if they want and that it's not US problem or business, that US meddling in Ukraine has made situation much worse

Did either of those referenda yield a 97% result? There's no way Russia will give up the Black Sea Fleet (for centuries it's been a major objective of theirs), so no point in even trying to wedge Crimea away from them, but we don't have to buy their cover story.

seems entirely plausible to me that the almost entirely Russian-speaking population of Crimea were and are in favor of separating from Ukraine and that referendum results reflect will of people. US has no right to deny Crimean choice.

I wouldn't be surprised either if an honest referendum went in Russia's favor. But 97% is just too much for me to swallow. Russia isn't the old Soviet Russia, where you could rely on them lying, but it's not like they suddenly all turned into paragons of honesty.
