Actually the Stables were not too far from where they ran from. Too Funny only in Brooklyn NY. 
Brooklyn: Quentin Road and East 9th Street: Two NYPD horses take off running after one officer fell off and was being treated by Flatbush Hatzolah Volunteers. After a brief pursuit, both were apprehended. The officer is stable.pic.twitter.com/D0DGoSp3Mz

from what i've seen, these horses even go out of their way to AVOID hurting people even when the cops riding them are trying to trample folks

They are often quarter horses crossed with draft type horses. Large boned, and super strong.
