Born in #PuertoRico, artist Roger Cabán moved to New York as a child. He spent his career photographing his family’s hometown in Puerto Rico, along with interiors of Manhattan. As part of the NYS Harlem Art Collection, we honor him during #HispanicHeritageMonth.

As a social reformer, Smith expanded support for housing, health care, and parks, and he increased education budgets. He died #OnThisDay in 1944 at the age of 70. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Queens, NY.
