Can someone educate me as to the gun laws in NYC and NY State? I’m out of a more conservative state and unless this gentlemen was a felon I don’t understand why his firearm was confiscated

NY has an extremely difficult, almost impossible concealed carry permit process. It could be he was carrying without a permit. They don't say why it was illegally possessed though, so maybe he was a felon or something else going on.
