Getting a whistle if you spend time there a lot is smart too. They don’t like the sudden noise. It can scare them off. Plus they’ll kill a pet right next to you so leashing dogs at all times is smart.

Odds are slim a coyote will attack a leashed dog. Urban coyotes are much more nocturnal than most. But keeping pets leashed is a must, and a whistle is a fantastic idea, especially for small children who might be of a bit more risk for a curious coyote than an adult.

Why do they not trap it and put it back in the wild?

It’s already wild!
