I don't like the idea that
@ewarren benefited by native American ancestry claims. I also don't like my own family was pretty vague about our heritage when my grandmother's family told stories. They were 'avoiding the old country'. And I always felt there was a lot made up. -
I don't know why my family didn't want to disclose our heritage willingly. If you read biographies and especially histories of immigrants that became famous (or their descendants). There is almost always 'something'.
