I’m sure he would rather be golfing.

@onesarahjones Hi Sarah. I'm wondering if this was a typo? "Is not just a religion" is not the same thing as saying, "it's not a religion." -
the entire line sets up an argument that Islam doesn't merit constitutional protection, as its conclusion demonstrates: "...which is incompatible with the Constitution."
-
Ok but I think you're incorrectly restating his point, in which he does not say that it is *not* a religion.
-
his point is actually very clear! Islam, by virtue of being something other than pure religion, is incompatible with the US Constitution. these views disqualify him for a role as a USCIRF commissioner
-
Hmm. I think you're muddying things. I don't know if any religious system is "pure religion." But this is clear: "not just a religion" not same as "not a religion."
-
...again, he thinks Islam is incompatible with the Constitution. I'm not sure why anyone who works for an entity ostensibly dedicated to preserving religious freedom is defending that quote to me right now
-
I am not defending the entirety of the quote. I haven't addressed every part of the quote or the quote as a whole. I am taking issue with your restatement of part of it.
-
that restatement is entirely accurate based on a reading of the entire quote! saying Islam is incompatible with the Constitution absolutely implies that it does not merit First Amendment protections. Meaning that it is not a religion.

Not because he is a Christian, mind you, but because they are big donors to his campaign. We know this story already.

Sid Roth. Since President Lyndon Johnson passed legislation to stop ministers from giving their political views, most ministers were muzzled. But there’s a new sheriff in town.
