    BREAKING: I am announcing a new directive requiring NY health insurers to waive cost sharing associated with testing for , including emergency room, urgent care and office visits. We can't let cost be a barrier to access to COVID-19 testing for any New Yorker.

  2. NYS is increasing our testing capacity, because the more tests we can do, the better. The State has received approval to work with other labs on testing. Northwell & Stony Brook will start testing in concert with the state, and we’re working with other labs too.

  3. NYS is activating the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Albany to closely monitor & respond to the outbreak. We’re also activating two EOC outposts in Westchester: one in Hawthorne and one in New Rochelle. They will remain operational until this outbreak subsides.

  5. We can all take precautions like frequent handwashing & coughing into a tissue. (We advise you to do this every flu season.) This is especially true if you are in a vulnerable population.

  6. With these new cases we are doing the same thing as we have done with the other cases: Tracking down people who have had contact with the known positive cases. We are trying to contain as much as possible the spread of each case we find – but we expect more cases.

  7. UPDATE: NY now has 22 confirmed cases statewide – 11 new positive tests since yesterday. Of the new cases: -8 are in Westchester, all mild or no symptoms -2 are in NYC, both individuals hospitalized -1 is in Nassau County, a 42yo man, also hospitalized

  10. While we expect there to be more cases, New Yorkers shouldn't let fear overtake reason. We have been preparing for this. We can all take simple precautions to help prevent the spread of this and other viruses, like frequent hand-washing and staying home when sick.

  11. The father of this family is friends with an earlier confirmed patient, the lawyer who also lives in New Rochelle. He spent time with lawyer in multiple circumstances. The entire family is under self-quarantine right now.

  12. UPDATE: We have learned of 5 new confirmed cases of , bringing the total of confirmed cases to 11. The cases are all in a single family from New Rochelle: A 46yo woman, her 45yo husband, and 3 of their children. The entire family is under self-quarantine.

    If you have symptoms and have had contact with a confirmed patient, go to a health care professional (call first). New Yorkers should know we are fully prepared for this situation. There is no cause for undue anxiety.

    Update: Yeshiva University's Wilf Campus will be closed until Friday out of an abundance of caution. SAR Academy and High School in Riverdale will be closed until purim.

    We are bringing home & students studying abroad in China, Italy, Japan, Iran or South Korea. They will be quarantined for 14 days out of an abundance of caution. Remember: We have been expecting more cases & we are fully prepared. There is no cause for undue anxiety.

    UPDATE: There are four additional confirmed cases of in NYS, bringing the total to six. The new cases are tied to the 50-year-old patient from New Rochelle announced yesterday: his wife, two of his children, and his neighbor who drove him to the hospital.
