Today we announced the first #BikeNYC lanes to be hardened as part of our commitment to fortify half the city's existing delineator-protected bike lanes. Construction is already complete at two locations in Manhattan, with others receiving similar treatment in the coming weeks.

Say hello to NYC’s first wider #BikeNYC lane! To support increased cycling & e-micromobility, we doubled the width of bike lanes on four blocks of 9th Ave in Manhattan as part of a resurfacing project. We’ll monitor use & plan to roll out additional wider lanes this year.

Today we announced that NYC’s speed cameras will begin operating 24/7 on 8/1/22. The city’s 2,000 automated speed cameras were previously authorized by the state to operate only weekdays, 6AM-10PM but a new state law allows the cameras to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week

It's the Summer of Cycling in NYC. Today we announced we'll begin construction to redesign a 1.9-mile stretch of Manhattan’s 3rd Ave from 59th St to 96th St featuring a new dedicated offset bus lane & a parking-protected #BikeNYC lane that will include wider segments.

Today we announced a Better Barriers pilot program to test new materials for protected #BikeNYC lanes across the city. The pilot is part of the admin’s ongoing commitment to harden half of the city's existing delineator-protected bike lanes in two years, using sturdier materials.
What's Happening Here? Better Barriers Initiative. A bike barrier material test has been installed at this location. A bike barrier material test has been installed at this location. NYC DOT is evaluating new bike lane separation materials through a series of small scale tests. These materials will be evaluated through Winter 2023 for durability, effectiveness, and winter maintenance logistics. We've seen a surge in cycling since the beginning of March, with warmer temperatures and after recommendations from and regarding COVID-19. This week we've seen a 50+% increase in cycling on all East River Bridges (vs 2019).

Today we announced our first-in-the-nation automated enforcement program targeting overweight trucks on the BQE. It will help reduce wear and tear and preserve the lifespan of the BQE. The program will begin for Queens-bound traffic with a 90-day warning period starting 8/10.

New data shows cycling ridership on the Brooklyn Bridge bike lane up nearly 90% in October 2021 from October 2020. This new protected two-way bike lane opened in September 2021. More on East River Bridge bicycle counts at: on.nyc.gov/2SVx9kQ.

Today we began testing new red asphalt on Pelham Parkway and Seymour Ave in #theBronx. We are evaluating this material to see if it is more durable than traditional asphalt and to see whether it reduces the frequency with which we have to repaint the road.
