Apparently
@MTA@NYCTSubway have assigned work crews to set down drop cloths and paint. But can't wait until night's last passengers exit.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

@MTA@NYCTSubway expects 50 New Yorkers wanting only to transfer to 8th Avenue line and finish midnight commute to queue for elevator.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

That's the painfully slow elevator that maybe has a 5 person capacity? Meanwhile we're missing our connecting trains.

There's a revolt. Passengers break tape and ascend stairs, hesitate as they're told to go back, ascend further, hesitate.

Eventually with much angry words and general anger, workers let us ascend, walking gingerly over the dropcloth coverings.

"The elevator is working," protests a worker as 40 of us move past. "Yeah, you go wait for it then," replies a passenger.

Or, you know, maybe don't close all the transfer stairwells simultaneously when there are still passengers in the system?

@beadsland We regret this. Department of Subways has been notified of this situation. Again, our regrets on the inconvenience.2 replies 1 retweet 0 likes -
