Firefighter William P. Moon II was a dedicated public servant, who spent more than two decades saving the lives of New Yorkers and will continue to do so in his passing. This is a heartbreaking loss for New York’s Bravest, and for our entire city.

Navigating obstacles in a new city and country are tough. Coupling that with a lack of child care can prevent families from achieving the dream they so desperately set out to achieve. Our Promise NYC program alleviates stress from those concerns.

I applaud our lawmakers in the House for passing the Puerto Rico Status Act. For decades, the people of Puerto Rico have been in limbo over their political future. This bill is a good first step in determining the future of the island by letting Puerto Ricans decide themselves.

A proposal passed Thursday would commit Congress to accept Puerto Rico as the 51st state if voters on the island approved it. But the effort now goes to the Senate where it stands little chance of passing as Republicans have long opposed statehood. apnews.com/article/refere

We will not allow unlicensed stores to threaten the work we are doing to create an equitable cannabis industry in NYC. More than $4 million worth of illegal products, many targeting kids, were recently seized by our interagency task force, sending a clear warning to bad actors.

It was my honor to host our Latino clergy leaders at City Hall. From expanding access to affordable housing to supporting children with special needs, their selfless work is critical to the prosperity of New York City.

Mothers for Safe Cities is a healing and empowerment network which serves as a peer support system for mothers and families of homicide victims. Their stories are powerful and their strength is inspiring. An honor to host them at City Hall tonight.

Our early childhood special education expansion ensures that not only our youngest are provided the resources they need to succeed, but the educators and caretakers who serve them are paid fairly and at a rate worthy of the life shaping the work they do.

Ten years since #SandyHook. And since that tragic day, we’ve lost too many lives to gun violence. No more. Let us be the leaders who honor those young lives we lost at Sandy Hook and dam the rivers feeding the sea of gun violence. For good.

The Democratic Party’s proposal to move its first presidential primary to South Carolina is an even larger, tectonic change in how Democrats are messaging their priorities as a party. And the message is clear: The party is prioritizing Black voters.

It is imperative all Americans stand up and speak up against the wave of antisemitism spreading through our country. Thank you to President Biden for taking action. I look forward to partnering with him on his task force.

For too long, our young students living with disabilities have struggled in a system that hasn’t been fully able to meet them where they are. I know that from personal experience. Today, we announced a historic investment in pre-school special education: nyc.gov/office-of-the-

Antisemitism is not a Jewish issue — it’s a human issue. If we don't meet that threat head on, we'll fail not just our Jewish brothers and sisters, but our entire society. Today, I stood with the @OrthodoxUnion to say to the forces of hate and division: Not here. Not in our city.

Shabbach Ministries relocated to NYC in 2012 and has spent the last decade serving the community, including delivering meals to the poor, providing school supplies for children in need and hosting health fairs in underprivileged communities. An honor to celebrate them last night.
