Sometimes you'll hear us reference the dew point when talking about the heat index or humidity. Here's a useful chart on how the heat index varies with temperature and dew point. The circled area is where we are/will be the next couple days!

84° at 10:20 am. Normal high at the office today is 78°. Toasty!

"But really. My kid wants everything in the store and turns a quick trip into half hour ordeal. Can't I just leave him in the car for like 10 minutes?"

And keep in mind - although air temps may be a bit lower, dew points will be higher on Monday, resulting in higher apparent temps. Otherwise, enjoy!

Again - none of this is new to us. We know what we have to do. We just have to do it. Sometime today, raise a toast to summer being here with a frosty cold glass...of water! Maybe even more than one! (It's important to stay hydrated.)

"Hey Mount Holly! Why is there a Heat Advisory for the urban corridor and not the rest of the region?" Good question. Even after the sun goes down, heat can be a real danger, especially in large cities. Dark pavement and buildings are very effective at absorbing heat.

Don't forget about your fur friends! Animals can die of heatstroke within 15 minutes, and cracking the car windows doesn’t help. NEVER leave your pets in parked vehicles.

On average, 38 kids die each year by being left in a vehicle. 88% are under 3 years old. 54% were forgotten by a caregiver. 100% of these deaths are avoidable.

Heat waves are nothing new to us, but it still is unusual to have one this early in the season. Average highs for this time of year range from around 70 in the Poconos and along the coasts to around 80 in the urban corridor down into Delmarva. (Safety tip thread incoming!)

Plenty of sunshine today but with increasing moisture it will feel pretty sticky out there. For more information on heat, visit: A Heat Advisory is now in effect for the urbanized Philadelphia metro area through 8PM Monday.

Quite a difference from last weekend, eh? Today is just the beginning as a sustained period of hot weather develops. Get ready for several days of temperatures near or above 90!

Heat indices near 90 today, so you may want to head to the beach. However, two things to note. 1) The water is cold (sea temperatures generally in the low to mid 60s). 2) There is a moderate risk of rip currents for the New Jersey portion of the surf zone. Stay safe!
