Now that most of the rain has dissipated for now, lets take a trip down memory lane into 2012. Between May 5th and 6th, many areas north of I-90 experienced flash flooding when between 2-6 inches fell within a 24 hour period. #SDwx #MNwx

Chances for tstorms develop again on Sunday, with isolated severe tstorms possible across portions of the area. The main threats with these storms will be large hail, strong damaging winds, and heavy rainfall. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out. Stay weather aware tomorrow!

Thunderstorms will be possible near the SD/MN/IA border by the early afternoon hours. Quarter sized hail and gusts to 60 mph are possible. A third round of thunderstorms may develop by the late afternoon hours in south-central SD and north-central NE. Stay weather aware today!

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue to be the main story for the next couple days, with isolated severe thunderstorms possible today and Sunday. Temperatures will remain fairly steady in the 70s and lower 80s.

11:44 PM Radar - A line of thunderstorms is approaching the area from the southwest, but is expected to become a broken line as it moves through the region. Not expecting anything severe, but small hail and breezy winds are possible with the strongest storms.

We are looking for someone who lives south of Carthage SD who might be able to provide us with a rain report. A small thunderstorm has persisted over the area for a few hours, and we'd like to know how much fell.

Chances for showers & T-storms through the weekend. Late FRI night into SAT morning has a low chance of strong-severe T-storm development. Any storms that develop may produce gusty winds & hail. These showers/storms are going to be scattered, not everyone will see precipitation.

Radar Update | 2:40 PM 5.5.23 Scattered showers continue to linger across NW Iowa as a line of thunderstorms lifts northeastward across SW Minnesota. Similar to this morning, expect lightning and brief heavy downpours to be the primary hazards with any of these storms.

While the severe risks are low, you'll want to monitor two areas over the coming days. Friday - Organized thunderstorms are expected to develop across Nebraska, though their severe risks decrease as they reach our area. Sunday - Isolated severe thunderstorms possible in the PM.

7 pm Update: A pair of storms between Sioux Falls and Sioux City may be producing a large amount of small hail as they move slowly southeast. If there are any pictures in the area of these storms, we'd appreciate seeing them!

5:20 PM CDT: Thunderstorms have developed near Centerville. The storms will move over I-29 north of Beresford around 530 PM. Nickel size hail, brief heavy rain and wind gusts up to 45 mph will be possible with these storms. #sdwx

Scattered thunderstorms have developed late this afternoon in south central South Dakota. These storms will continue into this evening with the potential for lightning, small hail, and wind gusts to 45 mph. Go indoors in you hear thunder.

⚠️ New Tstorms are expected to develop near the South Dakota/Nebraska border - from near Valentine NE to Pickstown & Yankton SD - early this evening. Severe weather threat is highest in this area through 10 PM with storms tracking slowly east or southeast.

12 PM Thu | Here's our view from the NWS of a supercell Tstorm west of Sioux Falls. This would likely impact the west side of Sioux Falls in 30-45 minutes. Large hail and frequent lightning are the main threats with this storm.

Can today be as nice as yesterday? Pretty much, well not exactly, but pretty darn close. Highs in the mid 70s to lower 80s with light winds is great, but a few storms will be possible late afternoon and evening. A better chance for showers and storms will be Friday into Saturday.

A beautiful evening is in store for us tonight followed by another beautiful day tomorrow. Thursday overnight there is a chance for some thunderstorms south of I-90. Then, multiple chances for widespread showers with a few rumbles of thunder possible through Sunday.
Five-day forecast. Highs will generally be in the sixties and seventies with lows in the forties and fifties.
