  2. With skies clearing over most of the lowlands, we're expecting temperatures to fall fast this evening. Temps are generally in the lower 40s right now, but may be close to freezing as soon as 8 or 9 pm. Good thing roads will be mostly dry tonight.

  3. Band of snow showers mainly east of the valley now. Reports of snow sticking to pavement around 500 ft and higher. Less organized showers moving east of coastal mtns into the valley shortly.

Ooh, I take it back! If you're east of I-205 right now, you may be seeing snow on the ground. Use caution. Roads will be slick-ish.

Snow changed to light rain here in Parkrose. Only accumulated on vehicles. Robins are singing to greet the day.

That's a healthy little snow shower! Also have had reports of snow in the air from McMinnville and Monmouth. Probably just snow for show though... roads should stay mostly wet thanks to the warm weather we've had recently.

Our commute this morning to work was pretty foggy! Some patchy locally dense fog will continue through the late morning. Be sure you are seen by wearing reflective or bright clothing while outside.

OR had measurable rain every day of January and a monthly total over 18 inches. You could call those climate "highlights," or you could call them something else.

Expectation vs reality: rain edition Dark clouds rolling in on the edge of a rain band & the corresponding radar image give us a hint of just how wet we are going to get...

The Grays River in Wahkiakum Co. rose sharply this morning. It's just over flood stage (12 feet) and will crest near 13 feet later this morning. There are likely some roads flooded near the river. Don't drive into flooded areas.

It was still mild in nw OR and sw WA Fri evening, with temps as warm as 62° in Troutdale at 8 pm, but you’d better enjoy the warmth now. Temps will fall over the weekend along with snow levels. By Sunday low elevation high temps should back down to 40°-45°. 1/1

Portland Airport (2x) and Eugene (3x) both recorded multiple 60°+ high temps this Jan. How common is that? In Portland it’s now happened 9 times in 80 yrs, while in Eugene it’s happened 15 times in 108 yrs of records. The most times? 4 in Portland in 1984. 6 in Eugene in 1935.

Wind Advisories are for when lower impact conditions (sustained winds 31-39 mph for 1 hr or more, and/or any gusts 46-57 mph) are expected (a high degree of confidence). Since the coast is often this windy and impacts are minimal, we do not issue wind advisories for the coast.

High Wind Warnings are issued when sustained winds >= 40 mph for 1 hr or more, or for any wind gusts >= 58 mph are expected (i.e. high level of confidence). High Wind Watches are issued when the same conditions are possible (lower confidence). Ideally Watches precede Warnings.

Today's high of 61° at PDX marks the 8th day this January with temps above 55°. The last time this occurred was in 1992! However, cooler temps will return tomorrow night & stick around through the middle of next week. Lows are expected to drop below freezing Mon & Tues night.
