As a low-pressure system slowly exits our region, we can expect strong westerly winds to continue. However, high pressure is gradually taking over with winds becoming weaker as we move into the overnight hours. #NYwx #CTwx #NJwx

Only a trace of snow has been recorded at Central Park today. The changeover to rain has taken place. 1/29/1973 was the latest 1st measurable snow at 1.8" since records began in 1869. If no measurable snowfall occurs by Jan 29, this season will replace the current record. #NYCwx

What are you seeing in your neighborhood? A rain-snow mix has moved into parts of the New York City metro area, the interior, and New Jersey. If you are seeing snow, it should only last the next few hours before increasing temperatures turn it all to rain. #NYwx #NJwx #CTwx

Many in the northern portions of southern CT, the Lower Hudson Valley, and western portions of northeast NJ are currently seeing snow or a rain-snow mix. The rest of the region is seeing rain, with some of that transitioning into a mix over the next few hours. #NYwx #NJwx #CTwx

Areas of the Lower Hudson Valley & north southern Connecticut should have around 1" or less of snow. If the track or speed of the system changes, this could change the amount of rain that transitions into snow as cold air filters in behind the exiting system. #NYwx #CTwx #NJwx

Snow for inland areas: 1"-2", isolated amounts just over 2". NYC may see snow, but no accumulation Mon. Another chance for snow Wed. If Central Park receives no measurable snow, it will likely break the record for the latest 1st measurable snow for the season which is 1/29/1973.

Warm, moist air surges in ahead of a storm system, leading to moderate coastal rainfall Sunday evening w/ a rain-snow mix for inland areas, before warmer air filters in. More rain Monday for the coast with a rain-snow mix for inland areas as the system exits. #NYwx #CTwx #NJwx

Radar reflectivity indicates rain continuing to move across the region. There are more gaps in this rain activity farther west as shown in this radar loop, so the rain this evening at times will become more intermittent. #NYwx #NJwx #CTwx

While it is quite mild for what is typically the coldest time of the year, there are signs that temps towards month's end will turn relatively colder (colder from where temps are currently) across the Northeast. The CPC's 8 to 14 day Outlook has temps returning to near normal.

You'll want the heavier jacket if out and about this morning! 😀🧥 After a chilly start to the day, temperatures rebound into the low-to-mid 40s this afternoon under a mix of sun and clouds. A few light snow showers can't be ruled out either, especially in CT. #NYwx #CTwx #NJwx
