  1. With multiple days of rain ahead of heavy rainfall Thursday with the front, the WPC has placed a majority of our area under a slight risk of exceeding flash flood guidance. Parts of the southern Blue Ridge and NC are in a moderate. Rain totals by Friday could reach +4".

  2. A look into tonight and into early tomorrow morning shows that the on/off rain will persist throughout. Winds will gradually calm down by early morning. Tomorrow will keep the trend of sporadic rain, but heavier than this evening's.

  3. Rain continues to try and push into the region this afternoon, but dry air near the surface continues to resist its arrival. Look for mainly stray showers/drizzle for the remainder of the afternoon & evening, besides areas west and in the NC mountains where heavier rain is.

  4. We are expecting several rounds of rain this week. This image shows the expected average rainfall across the region as a result from today through Friday morning. As the week progresses, and the ground becomes saturated, the potential for localized flooding will increase.

  5. High pressure will drift off the Southeast coast tonight into Tuesday. A frontal boundary with waves of low pressure will slide east Tuesday into Wednesday.

  6. Here's a look at some of the temperatures out there this afternoon. Certainly doesn't feel like winter!

  7. Its February, but today will feel more like May. Morning low temperatures are warmer than daytime highs should be! Check out these two graphics which show the 8 AM temperatures and the expected high temperatures today.

  8. The winds are howling this evening! Here's a look at some of the max 24 hour wind gusts. The mountains in North Carolina are the winner with the highest. Wind advisories still remain in effect until midnight tonight. After midnight, the wind quickly starts to subside.

  9. A Wind Advisory is now in effect until midnight tonight for locations along and west of the Blue Ridge. See this graphic for more information on the expected wind gusts based on your location. Anyone traveling on I-77 and I-81 will encounter crosswinds.

  10. Will the groundhog see his shadow morning? It's looking unlikely. Cloud cover is expected to persist through the morning hours as noted by the cloud cover forecast for 7am. Even with all that said, we'll just have to wait and see what the groundhog says.

  11. Winds will be gusty across the area tonight and Sunday. Gusts of 30 to 40 mph will be common, especially along and west of the Blue Ridge. Snow showers are also expected overnight, with 1-2"of snow from parts of southeast WV through northwest NC.

  12. Foggy this morning, especially the NC mountains & foothills northwest into Kentucky, and also in the Shenandoah Valley. The system off the coast moves away today, but an upper disturbance arrives behind it with rain and snow showers. An inch or so will affect the higher ridges.

  13. 8:30PM - Some lingering rain across Southside, along with patchy fog.

  14. A radar loop of the moisture advancing during the lunchtime hour is shown here. While any accumulating snowfall will occur at 3,000 feet or above, some snow is making its way toward lower elevations. Please continue to send us your snow reports!

  15. Moisture is spreading northeastward at this time. Snow will fall over the next few hours above 3,000 feet in the northwest North Carolina mountains. Lower elevations should see mainly rain. Please feel free to share any snowfall reports with us!

  16. Expect a period of mainly light rain today with snow at the higher ridges. Any snow accumulation should be an inch or less. The following animation depicts a model forecast for late this morning into this evening. The piedmont should see more rain compared to West Virginia.

  17. Clouds are hanging around this afternoon for most: we should get some clearing out east late this afternoon and into this evening though! What clearing that does take place will be short lived with clouds thickening back in tomorrow ahead of our next system.

    Poništi
  18. You might be waking up to some snow showers this morning. Snow accumulations will be confined to just a dusting. Just enough to coat the top of your car or make your deck slick. It will taper off by mid-morning.

    Poništi
  19. Light snow is spreading into the region from the west this morning. Accumulations up to an inch are possible in a few spots through daybreak. Use extra caution while traveling in areas of snow.

    Poništi
  20. No real changes on the forecast for snow tonight. Most will receive less than an inch of snow, besides some higher elevation areas. The only foreseeable trouble with this event will be the fact that it'll be snowing during the morning commute for some.
