  1. Winter weather on the way starting late tonight and continuing through the Thursday morning commute time. It will start as snow but quickly change to sleet and freezing rain heading into Thursday morning. Allow extra travel time for your morning commute.

    Clear to partly cloudy skies this evening near & south of I-90, and partly-mostly cloudy to the north. Clouds increase all areas by daybreak Tuesday, with lows in the 20s to lower 30s.

    Check out the graphic that shows the amount of solar radiation or sunshine across NY. The blue colors represent mostly sunny skies while the gray represents cloud skies. Skies will continue to gradually to clear from south to north through the aft'n.

    A wintry mix is possible tomorrow morning before changing over to rain for the afternoon. Rain is then expected to change back over to snow tomorrow night. Any accumulations should remain light.

    Any dustings of snow that accumulated overnight will melt today with highs in the 40s. Some 30s in the southern Adirondacks and southern Green Mountains. Near 50 mid Hudson Valley and Litchfield CT area.

    Patchy light snow is occurring, especially for areas south/west of I-90. Spotty light accumulations of less than 1/2" possible, esp on colder surfaces. Locally slippery travel possible, especially on untreated roads/ground surfaces.

    Interesting to look at how the yearly precipitation amounts differ between 2018 & 2019 across eastern NY/western New England. The eastern Catskills received an impressive amount in 2018 (80"+!) but there was a more even distribution in 2019.

    Temps were above normal in Jan 2020 across eastern NY and western New England, but precipitation was below normal in many locations. Precipitation amounts were generally 1.5-3.00" which were 1-2" below normal in many locations.

    Be on the lookout for patchy dense fog across parts of Litchfield County in NW CT this morning. Slow down and allow for plenty of space between vehicles.

    A "white" start to February here at NWS Albany. We measured 0.2" which is our first accumulating snow in about two weeks. January 2020 finished 12.8" below normal in the snow department. Normal February snowfall is 12.2" in Albany.

    The numbers are in for January. 2020 tied for the 6th warmest January at and was the 8th warmest at . It was generally drier and less snowy than normal as well across eastern NY and western New England.
