75y ago on 25 Mar ‘48, Air Force weather officers E. J. Fawbush and R. C. Miller successfully predicted a tornado at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. This single forecast led to the establishment of a centralized US severe weather forecast program (and ultimately the SPC).

Showers and thunderstorms containing heavy downpours capable of 1-3"/hr rates may lead to isolated instances of flash flooding through the evening in southern Louisiana. The metro area of Baton Rouge will be particularly vulnerable to these intense rainfall rates.

It is important to always have multiple different ways to get informed during an emergency as there’s a chance that one of those ways main fail during hazardous weather. Be prepared and be informed. A developing cluster of intense thunderstorms will head for portions of northern LA, central MS, and central AL over the next several hours. Flash flooding may occur with rainfall rates up to 2"/hr possible, particularly within training/continuous storms.

Several inches to over a foot of snow in the West, Intermountain West, & into the Plains; and from the Great Lakes to the Northeast. Another strong system in the West to bring potential for several feet of additional snow early next week.

Lingering frontal boundary is producing severe storms with damaging winds & large hail in the Southeast. Several systems are bringing areas of heavy snow to the West, Plains, & Great Lakes. Critical fire weather threats are in place for parts of the south/central High Plains.

The likeliehood of severe weather has increased some this afternoon with upgrading both areas of concern to a Slight (level 2 out of 5) risk. Damaging wind is the main threat, though a tornado or two remains possible

After a brief break, heavy rain and mountain snow is set to return to California early next week. This additional moisture will bring renewed flooding threats to the coast and central valley.
