Rightfully many are critical of politicians’ endemic failure & empty rhetoric on climate change. All more reason to support MP & cross-party colleagues’ Climate Emergency Bill If you think we should meet our Paris commitments, ask your MP to support it.

Tomorrow, I’m bringing the #CEBill back to Parliament. To truly address the global climate-nature crisis, we must align UK law with what’s needed to reverse nature loss by 2030—and keep 1.5°C alive. The CE Bill will do exactly that! 🌍🌱 @cebill_now

In which I ask-vis a vis #reparations: "..even when all the gold is on the table, there is one thing that reparations cannot heal: Trauma-..sometimes fashioned into art and culture; but too many times turned into harm and self-harm. " via

But what does this loss look like? My attempt to visualise it: each bird represents 1 million pairs - many more (57) fade out than are replaced (21). Thanks to all #volunteers whose observations provide evidence for action👉strategy.bto.org #ornithology #conservation

A flock of Lapwings in flight through a cloudy sky by Allan Drewitt / BTO. 73 million UK birds lost since 1970.
The UK is home to 73 million fewer birds this #DawnChorusDay than it was in 1970. This staggering decline of almost a third is almost impossible to comprehend, so we have created a website that allows you to see what’s changed in your area 👉 bto.org

Learning from history on how to stop the sewage pollution from UK water companies
Quote Tweet
Last year raw sewage was pumped into the UK's rivers and seas 825 times per day. How history reaches out to tap us on the shoulder. Really great new story @RapidTransition 👇 London’s ‘Great Stink’ of 1858: how a rapid policy response stopped the stench rapidtransition.org/stories/london

Net Zero duty for Ofgem: I was part of a team at the Sustainable Development Commission (then official advisers to government) who suggested this in *checks notes* 2010. It's a really obvious and necessary thing to do but thirteen years later we're still debating it.

It follows @EnvironmentAPPG Chair @CSkidmoreUK writing for the @FinancialTimes on why Ofgem needs a net zero duty this weekend 👇✍️ ft.com/content/304a30

Tackling leaks from fossil fuel sites is the fastest & cheapest way to slash methane emissions & global heating. "We know where the super-emitters are" says "We just need the policymakers & investors to do their job which is to crack down on methane" Great piece
Quote Tweet
‘Mind-boggling’ #methane emissions from Turkmenistan revealed - cause more global heating than entire CO2 emissions of UK - leaks could be easily fixed, say experts, and would rapidly reduce heating @Kayrros #ClimateCrisis Story by me theguardian.com/world/2023/may

"Significant shortcomings in the functioning of the financial system are curtailing the flow of investment in green" says underlining that "we are committed to aligning ourselves with a Paris-compatible transition path across all our tasks & responsibilities"

I see three gaps in the financial system that are holding back the green transition. In my speech at the @EUISoU in Florence last week, I explained why we cannot ignore them in our work to deliver on price stability and safe banks. Read the full speech ecb.europa.eu/press/key/date
