There has recently again been an uproar about James Watson's claim that the racial IQ gap has a genetic basis. It's not so widely known, but the other co-discoverer of the DNA double helix structure, Francis Crick, expressed the same view in a private letter in 1971.pic.twitter.com/AyAxrOZIxD

Fascinating. And he pretty much left Watson out to dry, I think? Do you know to whom that letter was addressed?

You'd almost think that the guys who came up with the double helix more or less out of the thin air (the X-ray diffraction data was strongly supportive but not decisive) are actually quite perceptive and smart. Not according to the current orthodoxy, though.

Intelligence - May have a genetic component, but it’s more important, if this ability when measured by cognitive ability tests, takes into account of where the person was born and educated. So when I was head of psychology at BA then PwC, I produced bespoke ethnicity norms

Intelligence absolutely has a huge genetic component. Genetics alone doesn’t determine measurable IQ but does determine an individuals potential range. Epigenetics and environment determines expression. No one denies cultural factors in IQ, but plenty wish to deny biology.
