Eight #NSWRFS members have been recognised for their dedication to the community as part of the Australia Day Honours List. We asked some of the recipients, who together they have more than 310 years of service, what it means to receive an Australian Fire Service Medal.

Last year, a severe flash flood impacted the small town of Eugowra, destroying homes, businesses and even the local #NSWRFS station. Last week, $1 million worth of funding was announced to rebuild the station on higher ground, so the brigade can continue to serve their community.

We’ve seen a number of grass fires across the state today including the Long Arm Rd Fire in Borah Creek, approximately 47km north west of Gunnedah. #NSWRFS firefighters are gaining the upper hand with the assistance of waterbombing aircraft.

Safe travels to a further 27 incident management specialists from NSW departing Sydney tomorrow morning to support as flooding continues to affect the Kimberley region. #NSWRFS members will join colleagues from and in the Broome and Fitzroy Crossing areas.

ADVICE: Illawong Rd Fire, Jugiong Firefighters working to control a grassfire burning near Illawong Rd 5km Nth of #Jugiong. The fire is moving east towards Jugiong Rd. There is no immediate danger. Residents advised to stay up to date in case the situation changes. #NSWRFS

The Wearnes Rd Fire at Bundarra in the Gwydir LGA has now been brought under control. Thanks to the efforts of firefighters from #NSWRFS, NPWS and Forestry Corp the fire which burnt through 2220 hectares is now contained. Crews remain on scene mopping up & extinguishing hotspots.

The #NSWRFS is continuing to provide support to the with flood and storm damage in the far west of the state. This morning, NSW RFS trucks and supplies are being transported into flood affected areas, for use by local and out-of-area crews as they continue the clean-up.

Today, Emergency Services Minister and NSW RFS Commissioner travelled to Eugowra to announce the town’s Rural Fire Brigade station, which was destroyed by severe flash floods in November 2022, will be replaced with a new $1 million facility. #NSWRFS

#NSWRFS supported by aircraft continue work on the Wearnes Rd Fire, burning 45km SW of Inverell. The fire has burnt 1800ha and is burning on farmland but not threatening homes. Overnight smoke is expected to drift south across Manilla and Tamworth.

Today marks the twentieth anniversary of the devastating 2003 Canberra Fires. Hundreds of #NSWRFS firefighters responded to Canberra to protect life and property. Today, we thank all of personnel who assisted during these fires and our thoughts are with everyone affected.

With a 28 year career, Deputy Group Captain Ritchey Sealy has fought countless fires, although none have left an impact on him like the Black Summer Fires. Ritchey is an artist and received overwhelming support when he began to paint these artworks.
