Over 3,000 online child grooming offences were recorded by police last year. It's time for gov to tame big tech and make the internet safe for children

Interesting but are you prepared to disclose how many cases have been referred to you in the last 5 years and how many of these resulted in prosecutions?

Hello. This information was obtained through Freedom of Information requests to police forces, and the scope of the request only looked at recorded offences. You can make a request to the Ministry of Justice to find out how many were convicted. Thanks.

Hello Daniel, thanks for your message. We want asocial media law to introduce an independent regulator who can put in place mandatory child safety rules for social networks. Detailed reporting on how they're keeping (1/2)

Is it not the parents responsibility to ensure their children are safe online? Or is it a case of using the Internet or tv as a glorified babysitter?

It certainly is, but when a child is not at home or using their own phone etc then the parents have no power over what they are shown and what is available to see. This is why isps needed to up their game and the courts need to prosecute massively when the rules are broken.

@NSPCC it just sounds like an excuse to guve the government the power to monitor us and cencor the internet. How can I be wrong with this thoight when Ive seen this posted by you many times and any time someone asls for specifics, you mever give them any.

Hi. The independent regulator would put in place mandatory child safety rules for social networks & has the power to fine them if they don't make their networks safe. We demand social networks offer safe accounts for children & proactively search for, & stop, child grooming.

Hi appreciate the response, however im unclear on what rules it would try to implement and how that is going to effect regular internet users. Will these safeblocls be opt in systems or will internet users need to opt out,, will it make posting cwrtain content difficult, (1/2)

Will this not encourage slcial media networks to limit the freedom of its users bu restricting what content can be posted, im sure we all remember YT demonitisation scandal that drove users off the platform vecause their content was deemed not advertiser friendly, (2)

And eill these rules ensure these companies will not use the opportunity to mass spy on users and exponentially give them the power to censor content, these types of things need to made clear because thousands of livelihoods could be effected by sweeping new rules like this. (3)
