A must read from - PRA needs tightening, classification needs reined in, WH needs to prep better for transitions, and NARA needs more money and tech (esp. at the NDC and ISOO - NARA officials shouldn't have to go to DoD or CIA to review docs)

Biden admin is working on a new executive order on classification which would allow DOD (not State) to cite "harm to U.S. diplomacy" to withhold historic records. There is pushback from other agencies, but not a good look if one cares about history, #FOIA, or transparency.

Last year, published a collection of declassified documents about this historic event, incl. transcripts of conversations between US and Soviet leaders during the summer and fall of 1991 and translated transcripts of USSR State Council meetings.
