If they are ‘not from government’ then presumably they don’t need to rely on the second amendment.

That does not follow. You can have for example a right to life. That right could come from God, or from some argument to moral principles, and a constitution could still protect that right from government action.

Or you give your son a bike. Why does he need Police to protect him from having it stolen? The state didn't give him the bike. Presumably he doesn't need to rely on police to protect it.

The Bible does not address the founding of America, however at one time, our elementary educational system went into great detail on the founders principles and intentions when crafting the Bill of Rights. For most Americans, the Senator's quote is understood in that context.

The most important of those rights:the Right to Stay Alive. Secondly: the Right to Live without Fear. Both rights have been stolen from Americans under NRA false pretense that all must have guns to be safe. Truth: Americans are FAR less safe BECAUSE of our proliferation of guns.

1) You literally don't have a right to stay alive. The government cannot protect you at all times. Honest. The only thing the government can do is protect you against government. 2) If you believe you have a right to live without fear, where do you think that right comes from?

I’m so thankful God has blessed our children with regular active shooter drills in school. We should give thanks to God in a house of worship, but even those aren’t immune from mass shootings these days.
