Words matter. In the medical setting, *resident*, *residency*, *fellow*, and *fellowship* belong to physicians ONLY. ⬇️📃 Every EM physician, resident, & student should be paying attention to the battle on scope of practice. 🥼 That’s the tweet. https://www.emra.org/be-involved/be-an-advocate/working-for-you/post-grad-statement-pa-np/ …pic.twitter.com/Q181IOYW4l

So will these organizations also be going after pharmacy residents? Since you claim those words belong only to physicians?

Physicians: NPs and PAs need more education and experience! NPs and PAs: Create residency and fellowship positions to allow more education and training Physicians: No, not like that! The terms residency and fellowship are not exclusive to physicians, even in healthcare.

100% agree. Also, my agency has been thinking of creating residency programs to educate for more advanced practice social work and care. Fellowships have, and do continue to exist, in many multidisciplinary fields that incorporate the healthcare and behavioral healthcare settings

It does create confusion for patients and staff. NPs and PAs do great work but using the term resident and fellow seems to be more about ego than training.

If a NP or PA resident or fellow is trying to pass themselves off as a physician that is unacceptable. The titles need to be clear. That said, there are many residencies and fellowships in healthcare other than NP and PA (podiatry, optometry, PT, pharmacists, etc).
