I was just talking with my teenager about this yesterday - how difficult it would be with a hearing disability when you rely on reading lips. I can't imagine how lonely these folks must feel... and the challenges!

Even the switch to remote has been challenging -- we don't use video in our work meetings (someone is always sharing a screen) so I can't see people's lips move. I have "just-OK" hearing, but I'm just realizing how much I rely on that visual confirmation of what I'm hearing.

Thank you for this. Masks have decreased my ability to communicate in work environment. Since my 20s I’ve been able to piece things together with reading lips, body language, facial reactions of other people in the group. Another new “normal”.

Google Meet has a halfway decent live caption feature. Also we should all learn some basic sign language. It's an awesome language with a great community.

Me too. Thank you for bringing this up. Covered mouths are necessary at this time but hope folks are patient with us.

Thank you! My hearing loss is still mild but this has been very challenging. I appreciate your willingness to share your story!
