As a rule, someone whose failings were subordinate to their claim to greatness should stay, whereas someone whose main contribution to history was baleful should go. I would remove this monument because of the design, very offensive, but not Roosevelt tributes in general.

Turns out any statue of flawed men risks running afoul when the lens of history inevitably shifts. Perhaps we should take this moment to recognize that.

I don’t think Roosevelt himself is what they take issue with with the statue. It’s they way the black man and the native Americans are respectively shown.

What in that statue tells us he initiated the minimum wage? What in that statue tells us he was a pioneer of conservation and the National Parks? Nothing. Statues don't tell us history. They symbolically represent aspects of the subject. This one does a shitty job of that.
