Only problem with your comparison? We're living in very prosperous times, and California is losing more citizens than the state gained during the depression.

Wealth inequality is worse now than it was during the great depression, but ooookay. The protections that were put in place after the depression have been neglected to the point of no effect like minimum wage no longer offers a living wage like it was designed to.

@NPR investigate where these people are from? Are they native Californians or coming from other States or countries looking for a better life? National problems need national solutions. -
There is a good series on homelessness from the LA Times that answers this. You should look it up. The vast majority of homeless in LA county are from California. Like >65%. Turns out high rents, stagnant wages, and ridiculous healthcare costs cause homelessness. Go figure.
